Edible Art in Art Club

For our final art club, we talked about the art of food presentation, and then made sushi. When I told the kids I'd brought them raw fish, rice, and seaweed wrap, they were less than thrilled. But when Amy and I brought out the real ingredients (Rice Krispies Squares, Fruit by the Foot and gummy fish) they were pretty excited. Check out their "sushi" below!

Penguins by the Sixth Graders

The six grade students started with a simple pinch pot, then continued to pinch out arms, beaks, and feet (and on some, mohawks!). The students fired and glazed them, and they came out wonderfully.

First Grade Snowmen!

First graders made these adorable snowmen from tongue depressors! Before they took them home we glued pretty seasonal ribbons to them for hanging.

Model Magic Stamped Trees by the Third Graders

Third graders shaped their trees, then used Cuttlebug folders to stamp patterns into them. After watercolor painting and applying glaze, the result was stunning!

After making a round shape from their clay, students carefully dusted cornstarch over rubber stamps to leave imprints on their ornaments. We fired and glazed them, and below you'll see the lovely results.

Ceramic leaves

The fifths graders carefully cut out leaf shapes, then let them dry in bowls to give them a curled shape. After being glazed, check out the results. Beautiful.

Junior Art Club Owls

The students in after school art club had a "hoot" making these adorable owls! So many fun colors and patterns!

Fall in Perspective

The students in fifth grade carefully used lines to set up the perspectives of these beautiful landscapes. Next, they drew and watercolored fall scenes, with a road, path or river down the center. The students truly impressed me with these lovely paintings!

Chalk Flowers by the First Graders

The first grade students drew large fall flowers on black paper, then traced over the lines with glue. Once it was dry, they smudged chalk to color the flowers. Absolutely lovely! More pictures to come!

Colorful Indian Corn

The kindergarten students checked out the beautiful fall shades in an ear of Indian corn, and then created their own! They used the tip of a large paint brush to dot their cob, the painted the husk with stripes of tempera. Well done!
