For our annual Read Across America day, I worked with a group of teachers and students to learn all about the southwestern region of the United States. We heard a story about Kokopelli, a symbol fertile crops and of spring, then created Kokopelli pictures. Students used black crayon to create a silhouette, then used watercolor paint to create a desert sunset. Lastly, we matted them on black paper. Gorgeous.
