Art in Motion

At the beginning of class, the fourth graders and I discussed ways that you can show movement or action in art. The students then drew a figure in movement, some sort of action pose that they themselves often do (running, dancing, etc.). They then cut their figures out of tagboard, thus creating a stencil. They sponged tempera paint over their stencils multiple times, to portray the figure moving across the page. While we talked about having the colors darken as the figure moved across the page, but only some students decided to do this. I think next time I will put more emphasis on the colors seemingly "fading away" behind the figure.
